Who's Who at Famous Fishing

Our guides and instructors are among the best in the world and are picked not only for their knowledge and experience, but also for their ability to communicate effectively. All of them hold a minimum qualification of GAIA (Game Angling Instructors' Association) Level 2, are fully insured and have received First Aid and Child Protection training.

William Daniel

City financier turned flyfishing guru, William founded Famous Fishing in 1995, after entertaining his fund manager clients on the banks of the chalk streams. Deeply passionate not just about flyfishing but also about the environment, he has travelled the world chasing trout, salmon and many saltwater species. Wlliam is a superb raconteur and an aimable and adroit tutor, beloved by beginners and experts alike.

Bill Latham

Former England International team member, Bill was brought up on the banks of the Avon where his father was a river keeper, and knows the chalk streams, and their flora and fauna, better than anyone else. As a guide, he has been described as “at the top of his game”.

Charles Jardine

Charles needs no introduction to those who already fly fish – he is, quite simply, one of the best known fly fishers, fly-tyers and fishing writers of his generation. His main passion, luckily for us, is passing on his knowledge to others.

Nick Lawrence

One of our younger guides, Nick has been guiding and teaching at Famous Fishing for 5 years now and, quietly knowledgeable and patient, is popular with both novice and experienced flyfishers. In addition to guiding, Nick is in charge of the day to day management of our beats and knows them all intimately.

Ian May
Master joiner and cabinet maker, Ian's attention to detail shines through when he is teaching. He has fished all his life and holds the top AAPGAI Masters qualification. A great communicator, he will have you casting perfect loops with either single or double handed rod in next to no time.

Kevin Styles
Kevin's great passion outside teaching is sea trout, and over the years he has lured some huge fish from the Avon and Frome.  An AAPGAI  qualified fly fishing instructor and one of the finest casters of a fly rod in the country.

Jonathan Penny

Jon's first career was as a riverkeeper on the Avon. His gentle “riverside” manner and sense of humour comes from his years as a successful osteopath. Fully qualified as a fly fishing instructor he now has more time for his real love in life, which is imparting his great fishing knowledge to guests.
